Splatoon 3 marks the triumphant return of Splatfests, an event well-beloved by fans of the series. This time around, the game introduces an exciting twist that makes the experience even more thrilling. Instead of choosing between two teams, players now have the option to pick from three, adding an extra layer of strategy and excitement. Let’s dive into what Splatfests are, how you can participate, and what the future holds for these ink-filled events.
A Splatfest is a recurring online event in Splatoon 3 that invites players to join one of three teams. The main objective is to compete in various online battles and dominate the battlefield with your team's ink. These events typically last a few days, and at the end of the period, the winning team is announced based on their overall performance.
For the initial phase of a Splatfest, the format consists of 4v4 Turf Wars. Teams battle to cover the most ground in their color ink. After the Halftime Report, the dynamics shift, introducing the Tricolor Turf War—a 4v2v2 battle where the leading team faces the two trailing teams simultaneously. This new mode adds a thrilling challenge as the leading team must defend while the other two teams work together to disrupt their dominance.
The Tricolor Turf War is a significant addition exclusive to Splatfests in Splatoon 3. Following the Halftime Report, the leading team of four players defends against two teams of two. The smaller teams aim to capture the Ultra Signal, while the larger team focuses on defending this crucial point. Initially, this mode was randomly assigned, but players can now select it after the Halftime Report, increasing its strategic importance and popularity.
Picking a side in a Splatfest is straightforward. In the days leading up to the event, during the Splatfest Sneak Peek, players vote for their preferred team. This can be done by visiting the main square in Splatsville. You'll spot a tent with t-shirts hanging out front, flanked by paper lanterns and an electronic billboard displaying the teams. By pressing 'A' on the screen, players can pledge their allegiance to a team and receive a team t-shirt to wear during the event.
Conch shells are a currency earned during the Splatfest Sneak Peek and the Splatfest itself. These shells contribute to your team’s score and can be accumulated by participating in various online matches to increase your catalog level. Modes like Salmon Run and Turf War provide opportunities to gather conch shells. Additionally, these shells can be used at the Shell-Out Machine in the multiplayer lobby to receive random rewards.
Tracking the results of previous Splatfests can give players insights into trends and popular strategies. The outcomes are typically broken down by region, such as the Americas, Australia, New Zealand, Europe, and Japan. Following each event, updates are provided to announce the winning teams for each region.
The most recent Splatfest began on 18th May 2024, with each region having specific start times. Players are always eager to know when the next Splatfest will take place, as these events offer a thrilling change of pace and a chance to prove their skills. The developers regularly announce dates and times for upcoming Splatfests, ensuring the community stays engaged and excited.
