Elizabeth Olsen shared her thoughts on how Marvel handled the character of Scarlet Witch following the conclusion of WandaVision. She mentioned that there appeared to be some uncertainty within the studio regarding the direction of her character after the show, though she is open to stepping back into the role if the Marvel Cinematic Universe can present a compelling way to do so.
The actress expressed her affection for the character, stating that she enjoys returning to portray Scarlet Witch when there is a meaningful narrative in which to involve her. Olsen emphasized her favorable experiences when she started working with Marvel, saying that she felt her character was utilized effectively. Despite the pause in her character's development, she confirmed her willingness to reprise the role, given that there is a substantial way to make her return worthwhile.
Olsen made her debut as Wanda Maximoff, also known as Scarlet Witch, in 2015 with Avengers: Age of Ultron. She later reprised the role in Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame. Following the events of Endgame, WandaVision premiered on Disney Plus in 2021 as the first MCU television series. The show depicted Wanda using her powers to transform her grief into a perfect, sitcom-style version of her life. Subsequently, she is featured in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, where she relentlessly pursues a multiverse version of her sons.
Next, she will appear in His Three Daughters alongside Carrie Coon and Natasha Lyonne, which is slated for a limited theatrical release in the United States starting September 6 before making its way to Netflix on September 20.
