5 Ways to Protect Your iPhone and Privacy

iPhones have always been standard setters in terms of data security and user privacy. However, hackers still can find ways to break through your iPhone security to steal sensitive data as Apple can’t guarantee that all the third-party apps are 100% secure. For this reason, we prepared a quick guide that will help you enhance your iPhone security in just 5 simple steps.

Step 1: Install Protection Software

Third-party ads and websites can carry malware and infect your smartphone. To protect yourself, you need to install an ad block and an antivirus app. The combo of these two apps (which are usually free) will add an extra layer of protection from intrusions through web content.

Step 2: Use a VPN

A good VPN app will encrypt all the outcoming and incoming traffic on your device and make your data impossible for hackers to decipher. It’s especially important to use a VPN if you go online via public WiFi hotspots and frequently use banking services on your iPhone.

Step 3: Secure Your Photos and Videos

Sometimes hackers target Camera Rolls of iPhone users, but there’s a way to protect this app from that. All you need to do is:

  • Go to Settings > iCloud > Photos and turn off iCloud Photo Sharing
  • Go to Settings > iCloud > Manage Storage > Backups and disable Camera Roll there. Instead, backup your photos and videos directly to your computer so as not to expose them to the cloud, which is more vulnerable to attacks.

Step 4: Enable Find My iPhone

The best thing you can do with the Find My iPhone app is to delete all the data on your device remotely. This feature is a lifesaver if someone steals your iPhone to get your sensitive data. Even if the thief turns the device off, the operation will be done once it connects to the Internet next time.

Step 5: Tweak Security Settings

Here is a full list of security settings you need to enable right now to protect your device:

  • Go to Settings > General > Touch ID/ Face ID and Passcode and enable the lock for your iPhone, Apple Pay, and App Store to make it impossible to access without your face or fingerprints.
  • In the same location, turn the Passcode on and choose a Custom Alphanumeric Code to lock your phone with a strong password.
  • Enable two-factor authentication in Settings > Your Apple ID > Password & Security to lock your account even from the most experienced hackers.

Update!

Now you’re ready to set up your iPhone for maximal security and privacy and make it totally impossible for hackers to break in. The one more thing that we recommend you do regularly is to update your iPhone every time a new iOS comes out to download the latest security protocols. Can you offer any other ways to boost iPhone security? You’re welcome to tell about them in the comments, and don’t forget to share this guide with other users.
