Hasbro and Legendary Join Forces to Create a New Magic: The Gathering Cinematic Universe

A new cinematic endeavor is on the horizon, as Hasbro aims to develop a fantasy universe centered around Magic: The Gathering. This initiative will kick off with a film inspired by the beloved card game, produced by Legendary Entertainment.

Mary Parent, the chairman of worldwide production at Legendary, expressed pride in nurturing cherished intellectual properties, stating that none exemplify this better than Magic: The Gathering.

Zev Foreman, the head of film at Hasbro, highlighted the significance of this collaboration, remarking on the union of a legendary brand with a capable and successful partner. He noted that Magic: The Gathering has fueled decades of imaginative storytelling and detailed universe creation. This renders it an ideal fit for Legendary's diverse strategy regarding prominent intellectual properties, and both companies are eager to establish an expansive Magic: The Gathering universe.

Legendary has previously contributed to the development of renowned franchises such as Godzilla x Kong and the Dune series. However, the challenge remains to see if they can replicate similar success with this card game adaptation. Hasbro's earlier attempt to translate its Dungeons & Dragons universe onto the big screen met with only moderate success at the box office.
