Deadpool and Wolverine Celebrate Record-Breaking R-Rated Opening Weekend in Marvel Cinematic Universe

Deadpool and Wolverine's historic opening weekend for an R-rated movie has sparked celebrations from stars Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds, who amusingly recreated a famous Wolverine meme.

Breaking several box office records, the movie has grossed $444 million globally in its opening weekend. Notably, it became the sixth biggest opening ever at the domestic box office with $211 million and is the first R-rated film to surpass $200 million.

Hugh Jackman shared a humorous photo on his Instagram, mimicking a popular Wolverine scene from X-Men: The Animated Series, in which Logan lies in bed staring at a photograph. In Jackman’s rendition, the picture says, "#1 Movie in the World." Meanwhile, on Ryan Reynolds' Instagram, Deadpool is seen holding the same picture frame, featuring Jackman's photo.

Reynolds expressed his gratitude on Instagram, remarking on the astonishing success and thanking everyone who watched the film during the weekend.

Directed by Shawn Levy, the film is a meta, fourth-wall-breaking adventure that pairs Deadpool and Wolverine in a quest to save the multiverse. This marks the first R-rated entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and signifies the end of Jackman's superhero retirement. The star-studded cast includes Emma Corrin, Jennifer Garner, Rob Delaney, Blake Lively, Tyler Mane, and Aaron Stanford.

Currently showing in theaters, those who have seen the threequel can explore our detailed breakdown of the film’s ending, guides to its cameos, Easter eggs, and the various variants of both Deadpool and Wolverine featured in the film.
